Venus Love Me Chain

Colored version of my original inked drawing "Tough Love" (see here: yumesprite.deviantart.com/art/… that I drew for my sister earlier this year. I used Sketchbook Pro and my Wacom tablet.

I love Sailor Venus. She's the goofiest of the girls and always getting her idioms wrong. Though a light-hearted comedy for the most part, I was one of those girls always looking forward to the serious or mature moments. So when I decided to draw Venus, I wanted to see her in action - really dishing it out on the bad guy. For a while after I drew it, I couldn't see how I was going to color it in my mind's eye (I originally only drew it for someone else to color! Not me!). Should I go with the crazy 1980s, early '90s tie-dye/prisms and pastel blues? Or for a high contrast moment of power and character-representing golden shadows, like when they found their final magic spells in the fourth season? You can see the road I took.

I'm very sad that the 20th anniversary Sailor Moon wasn't completed (or even started - who really knows?) earlier this year. Maybe we'll all get lucky and the people making the new show will actually pull through for us in 2014. I'm crossing my fingers that, even though I'm not 16 anymore, I'll be inspired enough to do some more fan art. We'll just have to see if they can get the show right this time (though I've heard it will be completely and entirely "new").

Though this drawing was done entirely by me in the spirit of fan art, the character was created and is owned by Naoko Takeuchi, and was based on the TV show Sailor Moon. I own the drawing, but nothing else, and so it is illegal to sell or make profit from this piece. Please respect copyright and do not use or alter in anyway.
